PETALING JAYA: Proton sales for the nine-month period of 2019 have surpassed its total sales last year, with Proton Saga returning to the number one spot in the A-segment sedan market.

In a press release yesterday, the carmaker said Proton’s sales have surged to a total of 70,330 units in both domestic and export market for the nine-month period of 2019 from its totals sales of 64,744 units in 2018.

Proton’s chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong said the Proton is on track to achieve its best sales number since 2015, adding that Proton Saga has reached the number one spot in the A-segment sedan market.

“Despite being launched less than two months ago, the response from Malaysians has been overwhelmingly positive, ” said Dr Li.

Comparatively, Proton has registered a total of 8,934 units in both the domestic and export market in September 2019, compared to 4,524 units a year ago, achieving a growth rate of over 97%.

“Proton’s exceptional performance equates to an estimated market share of 20.2%, pointing towards the company growing sales at a higher rate than competitor brands.

“The figure is a 66 month high-point for the brand and helps to increase its year-to-date market share to an estimated 15.8%.” the company said.

As a celebration for Proton’s performance, the company said it would be giving out additional benefits for its X70 model customers this month.

“On top of the standard 5-year free labour service, 5-year unlimited mileage warranty and 5-year Internet data packages already included with every unit, there will also be a subsidised insurance package and overtrade incentive worth up to RM2,000, ” it added.

Moving forward, Dr Li said the carmaker is looking to open more 3S/4S outlets to deliver a premium brand experience to more Malaysian car buyers, as it continues to invest heavily in training programmes for sales and service staff.

“As we continue to evolve as a brand, it’s vital that the service delivered at our outlets and dealerships evolves in tandem as the point of contact for our customers are the frontline staff.

“Therefore, an improvement to our sales service index and customer service index scores is a priority for everyone at the company as a means to maintain and even improve our sales growth momentum in the future, ” he added.

As of Sept 2019, Proton has a total of 104 3S/4S outlets nationwide.
