PETALING JAYA: Former Prasarana Malaysia Bhd president and chief executive officer Prasarana Datuk Seri Azmi Abdul Aziz (pic) has been tipped to be the new chief executive officer of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB).

The main rail service operator is expected to make an announcement on the appointment tomorrow, according to sources.

Azmi left Prasarana on Dec 31,2018, after his contract expired.

He was appointed by the Finance Ministry to helm Prasarana on Jan 1,2015, and he received a one-year extension in January 2017.

Prior to joining Prasarana, Azmi was chief development officer of the Land Public Transport Commission. He had more than 25 years of experience in the public transport industry.

KTMB has been undergoing a restructuring exercise to turn around the company. It reportedly managed to return to profitability for the first time in over 20 years in its financial year ended Dec 31,2017.
